Mowing a lawn can be as simple or as complex as the owner desires. It can simply be the process of brush hogging field brush and tall grass a few times each year to keep the brush down or as complex as making stripes on a green, luscious yard with trimmed fences and decorative landscape. To help the grass grow greener and thicker, the owner can also fertilize their yard for a richer color and thick stand of grass. The mowing season usually ranges from early April to October, depending on the weather patterns. Grass usually grows very fast and thick in the first few months of the season and growth begins to slow down as the weather gets warmer.

Supplies:

· Riding Mower (finish mowing)

· Push Mower (finish mowing)

· Weedeater (finish mowing)

· Weedeater String

· Fuel

· Oil

· Tractor and Brush Hog (brush hogging)

Mowing Process

· Determine what final product is desired from the mowing process (brush hogging or finish mowing).

· Collect the necessary mowing supplies.

· Check the fluids (oil and gasoline).

· Check deck belt and drive belt for fray and cracks.

· Grease pulleys and joints as needed.

· Set the deck height.

o Do not set cutting height too short as it can kill the grass but set it short enough that the grass gets an even cut.

· Begin Mowing.

o Mow radius and outside of the yard.

§ Blowing grass clippings toward the inside of the yard helps prevent grass clippings from getting on the road or in flower beds.

o Continue to mow grass inward until enough distance is between the yard perimeter and the current mowing position.

o Finish mowing the grass with the clippings blowing outward by working around the yard in a back-and-forth pattern or circular pattern.

· Begin Push Mowing.

o Use the push mower in any areas which were impassable with the riding mower.

· Begin Weedeating.

o Trim the outside edges of the property or mowed area.

o Trim around any trees, or boundaries missed by the mowers.

· Clean up materials.

o Blow off or rinse the grass clippings from the mower.

o Clean any debris from the weedeater.

o Put away all extra supplies.
